 Most fraternities have 3 letter designations, although some only have 2, and the letters are repeated twice on opposite sides of the ring.  The opposite side carvings are also upside-down relative to the front to preserve the symmetry and make the ring able to be worn equally in either orientation.  The pictures below only show half of the design and it is identical (although upside down) on the opposite side.
